NOVEL TAR REFORMING CATALYSTS FOR SOLVING THE TAR PROBLEM IN BIOMASS GASIFICATION

29. Juli - 16:45 - 19:00
Hybrid Veranstaltung
Kostenlos

DESCRIPTION
Biomass gasification is the most advanced thermochemical conversion technology to allow
the use of locally available biomass for bioenergy and biofuel production. However, the
removal of tars as side products in the raw syngas still has not been solved in an energyefficient way. In this presentation novel tar reforming catalysts for hot gas cleaning are
presented to realize complete tar conversion and to contribute to a broader applicability of
biomass gasification for decentralized energy & fuel production.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This invitation is addressed to
Mechanical engineering campanies active in the field of thermochemical biomass
conversion processes
Companies for decentralized bionergy production
Hot gas filter suppliers
Chemists and engineers active in industrial heterogenous catalysis

17:15 “NOVEL TAR REFORMING CATALYSTS FOR SOLVING THE TAR PROBLEM IN BIOMASS GASIFICATION”
Presentation
Dr. Manfred Nacken
Senior Scientist,
C&CS Catalysts and Chemical Specialties GmbHThe presentation introduces tailor-made tar reforming catalysts for complete conversion of tars in biomass-derived syngas by demonstrating the feasibility of low-temperature tar reforming.Performance results obtained from model tar reforming under simulated hot gas cleaning conditions and from real tar reforming in syngas derived from updraft gasification are correlated with catalyst characterization results and compared with the current state of the art.Based on these advances, an optimized low-temperature tar reforming catalyst is presented as the basis for a simplified hot gas cleaning concept using catalytic filters. Finally, further potential applications of the catalyst systems in both unmodified and modified forms are discussed.
